Guh. I'm usually in bed by this time. The Cardinals won 9 - 4 tonight against the Anaheim Angels. That's good news. They're still a 1/2 game in first place in the NL Central. Brad Penny had to leave the game with a back strain though. Hope it's a thing he'll only need a couple of days to recover from and not several weeks. The Bullpen did a good job tonight...three hits over five innings.
My brother Nic's birthday was today. I got to talk to him on the phone for a bit and left him a really neat Facebook message. It was the Gettysburg address, but tailored to his birthday. The first line was: "One score and four years ago, your father brought forth on this continent..." Happy birthday, again, to the oldest of my younger brothers, Nic.
I did have the text of the Gettysburg address in my lap as I was parodying it into a birthday message for my brother. As silly as I was being with it, I also couldn't help but read the actual text over and over and over again. What a stream of consciousness! It seems to me that most of the hubbub over the address is it's succinctness. I guess the speaker before Lincoln spoke at some great length. It was an anomaly in the time before youtube and soundbites that an orator would not use every opportunity to speak for as long as possible. People had longer attention spans. Anyway, it could be the greatest three paragraphs written in American history. Please, I beg you, read this...

I mean that this could be the greatest three paragraphs ever written in America in any genre: political, literature, poetry, philosophical, etc. America has certainly produced great written documents; The Mayflower Compact, The Declaration of Independence, The Bill of Rights, The Constitution, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Herman Melville, Harriet Beacher Stowe, Mark Twain, J.D. Salinger, E.A. Poe, the list could go on. I only humbly mean to impress the idea upon the reader here to spare three or four minutes of their precious (or not so precious) time to read the Gettysburg address.
Well, I do hope that anyone finding themselves reading this tonight would find themselves in good health and high spirits. Make friends with your neighbors. Love each other. Don't forget to rock and roll. I drank too much home made beer tonight, Warren.
p.s. You know what? There have been some really, I mean REALLY funny names of threads on this forum. You look around and see if you can't find some funny shit.
A good thread needs a debate or a good topic of conversation. Who do you want to win in the NHL playoffs? Sharks or Blackhawks? Canadiens or Flyers?
